How do I investigate and pursue a legal claim against a nursing home?

1. If you live in Oregon you may call me for free at 503-665-4234 or 1.800-970-5327. (I do not practice law in other states, but have taken cases all over Oregon.)

2. Obtain ALL of the records on the resident / patient from the facility.

3. Check with Oregon Dept of Human Services, Seniors And People with Disabilities Division. Call for an appointment to review the records on the nursing home.  This way, you can find out who is the true owner of the facility and read other complaints about care.  Sometimes, the authorities have already investigated your situation and fined the nursing home.

4. Together, we study the paperwork to determine whether rights were violated and whether you should pursue a legal claim.

5. Typically, I pursue legal claims on a “contingent fee.”  This means that you do not pay me for my time until and unless we obtain money from defendant.  By law, out-of-pocket costs must remain the ultimate responsibility of the client.
